Bushfire Information
The recent Black Saturday fires in Victoria have raised many important issues in relation to government policies for the management of Australia’s bush.
Over recent years, the debate about proscribed burning has been dominated by Greens groups against the practice. However, proscribed burns have the potential to prevent wildfires from occurring by decreasing forest floor litter. They can also rejuvenate many native species that rely on fires to spread their seeds and grow.
In fact, in the past local Aboriginal communities have used controlled fires as an effective land management practice.
Local author and researcher, David Ward, has done a lot of research into this area which I thought I would share with you.
